Troutman Bluegrass Jam off to rocking start
BY DEBBIE PAGE
Community members gathered Monday on a delightfully cool evening to enjoy local bluegrass singers and musicians perform in a free music jam. The Monday music series will continue on June 17, July 1, 15, August 5, and 19.
Rocking in Troutman Chair rockers, musicians and fans alike enjoyed such old time classics as "May the Circle Be Unbroken” and "I’ll Fly Away," the Hank Williams standard “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It,” and bluegrass favorites.
Pickers ranged in age from 8 to 87 years old, ensuring love of the genre will continue for future generations. Several musicians provided vocals, included Parks and Recreation Coordinator Emily Watson.
Music lovers who want to join in on future events, sponsored by Troutman Chair Company, can bring chairs, grab takeout from downtown eateries or pack a picnic, and join their neighbors for an evening of toe-tapping entertainment and fun. Local musicians are also invited to bring their instruments to join the jam, and singers can jump in to carry the tune.
In the event of rain, the group will still play at the J. Hoyt Hays Memorial Troutman Library on these Monday nights.
