Organizarts of the Statesville Sandlot Baseball League are preparing for the upcoming season.

The a self-funded organization is entering its second year and will be offering a spring/summer program for boys and girls. There will will be two age groups:

► The Minors (for 9/10 years olds); and
► The Majors (for 11/12 year olds)

Signups and workouts will start in April followed by sufficient team practice time in May. Games will start in early June with a 12-game schedule.

The cost per player at this time is $85, which includes T-shirt jersey and ball cap for Minors. Participants in the Majors play in replica MLB jerseys (which are returned to the league at season's end) and caps, which players get to keep.

Statesville Sandlot Baseball is a “relaxed” league where no one is playing for “a college scholarship” or a spot on an all-star teams. Players are learning the game and along with their parents are having fun! An end of the season survey indicted that 96 percent of our families enjoyed their experience.

A major difference is that players are dispersed through a “draft." School and travel teams do not play in the league.
