North Iredell's varsity soccer team knocked Salisbury High from the ranks of the unbeaten Thursday after netting two first-half goals and turning away the Hornets' high-powered offense in a 2-0 shutout.
Junior Spencer Morrison put the Raiders on the board with a goal assisted by Froylan Luna. Keller Portillo added the second goal off an assist from Matthias Moorefield.
Senior goalkeeper Frankie Barnes notched six saves for North Iredell. The Raiders offense helped the defense by maintaining control and keeping the ball away from the Hornets' offense, which had scored 28 goals in their previous six matches.
"I couldn’t be more proud of the boys’ performance tonight," North Iredell coach Tyler Carter said. "They faced our toughest opponent yet. Composure won the game tonight. Defense was unbelievable followed by and dynamic and powerful offense. We kept working hard and forced Salisbury to be off balance. I’ve never seen this group of boys want something more than this and put that kind of effort into every play."
North Iredell improved to 3-1-1 heading into Tuesday's home match against Freedom. With the loss, Salisbury fell to 6-1.
Salisbury 4, North Iredell 1: Jeremy Burke scored the lone goal for the Raiders, and goalkeeper Dane Coltrane recorded 11 saves for North Iredell.

The Greyhounds suffered a tough loss on their home field Thursday after conceding second half goals on a penalty kick and a throw-in.
Junior Jamie Woodard gave Statesville a 1-0 lead when he received a nice pass from senior Anderson Castro and beat the Jaguars goalkeeper in the game's eighth minute.
The contest was marred by a pushing match between players from both sides in game's 48th minute. Play was delayed for about 10 minutes while the referees discussed the incident. Each team had a player sent off with a red card.
Greyhounds keeper Josh Fuhrman recorded eight saves.
The game was Statesville's third consecutive defeat. The Greyhounds have managed only one goal in their last 280-plus minutes of play.
