Prep Soccer: Raiders ranked No. 2 in Class 3A after defeating Wildcats

A day after one of the biggest wins in program history, the North Iredell High School men's soccer team was recognized as one of the top squads in the state.
The Raiders (4-0) checked in at No. 2 in the first Maxpreps North Carolina Class 3A rankings of the season. Among all classifications, North Iredell was ranked No. 9
After playing to a draw in the first half Monday night, North Iredell got two late goals to beat Lake Norman 2-0. It was the season opener for the Wildcats.
Sophomore Thomas Mann scored the first goal of the match with about 10 minutes to play, and Juan Nieto bagged an insurance goal a minute later for North Iredell.
Raiders goalkeeper Dane Coltrane was credited with six saves in the victory.
"Boys proved themselves tonight," head coach Tyler Carter said afterward. "They boys have finally been rewarded for years of dedication and hard work."
The Raiders travel to St. Stephens for a nonconference match on Wednesday.
Looming next week is a trip to A.L. Brown. The Wonders are off to a 3-0 start and are ranked No. 4 in the Maxpreps 3A rankings.
