Prep Soccer: Raiders blank East Rowan for sixth shutout of season
FROM STAFF REPORTS
The North Iredell High soccer team bounced back on Monday from a tough loss to defeat NPC foe East Rowan 3-0.
Returning to action for the first time since a loss to rival South Iredell, North Iredell turned another stellar defensive effort into its sixth shutout of the season.
Freshman keeper Dane Coltrane recorded nine saves behind the Raiders' stout defense of Matthias Moorefield, Josue Rodas, Hunter Ketchie and Dylan Coltrane.
Junior Chavez scored a pair of goals and Keller Portillo added the third score for North Iredell, which improved to 9-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the NPC. Zach Pope, Yoyo Ramirez and Thomas Mann had assists for the Raiders.
"Boys played well tonight," Coach Tyler Carter said. "Several subs and younger boys got solid minutes and played well. A true team win."
South Iredell 3, North Iredell 2: The Vikings prevailed in a back-and-forth match with first place in the North Piedmont Conference on the line.
Dylan Dellinger and Carter Payne scored goals for the Vikings (8-1-5), who have not lost since a 3-1 defeat to Newton-Conover on August 15.
Juan Nieto and Keller Portillo scored for the Raiders.
"Proud of my boys tonight," North Iredell Coach Tyler Carter said. "They rose to the occasion and played South super close. We fought back to tie the game at 2-2. We made a small mistake defensively and gave up a goal with three minutes to go."
