The Lady Warrior Golf Program hosted the first-ever Lady Warrior Invitational on Thursday at River Oaks Golf Course near Statesville. Teams from Lake Norman High, North Iredell High, Statesville Senior High, along with the Lady Warriors of West Iredell, played a nine-hole match as a tune-up before conference play begins in September.
Lake Norman captured first place with a three-player score of 151. North Iredell was second (166) and West Iredell took third (189). Statesville did not field enough players to qualify for the team competition.
The top individual performance was turned in by North Iredell's Evie Austin, who carded a 48. Lake Norman teammates Lilly Steward and Meredith Carson tied for second with a 49. West Iredell's Kennedy Gaulding and Lake Norman's Meghan Christensen tied for fourth at 53, and Statesville's Grace Vanpatten and Lake Norman's Emily Ennis tied for sixth place at 54.
"We plan to make this an annual early season opportunity for ladies high school golf teams in Iredell County to compete and prepare for conference action," West Iredell coach Patric Patterson said. "It is our hope that every golf program in the county can participate in future events."
