North Iredell, Statesville to clash in girls championship of Holiday Classic

The North Iredell girls basketball team exerted its will from the opening tip Friday evening and cruised to a 62-34 win over Mooresville in the semifinals of the Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame Holiday Classic.
Rachel LaLonde turned in the best individual performance through the first two days of the tournament, scoring a game-high 31 points, to lead the Raiders (8-1) into Saturday’s title game.
LaLonde poured in 20 first-half points as North Iredell cruised to a 38-15 lead at the break. Juliane Walter, Mackie Allen and Bailey Barzee contributed eight points each for the tournament’s top seed.
KK Daniels scored eight points and Macy Martin added seven for the Blue Devils (4-5).
In the other semifinal:
Statesville 49, Lake Norman 33: Tyasia Sharpe scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to help the Greyhounds earn a spot in the title game.
Danasia Gray chipped in 10 points for Statesville (9-1), the tournament’s second seed.
Madison Saunders led the Wildcats with 10 points. With the loss, Lake Norman fell to 3-6 on the season.
Pine Lake Prep 35, South Iredell 28: The Vikings could not overcome an anemic first-half performance and fell to the seventh-seeded Pride.
South Iredell managed only a single free throw in the first quarter and trailed 18-5 at the half. Sarah Nelson scored nine points to lead the Vikings (4-5).
Carlay Scholl led the Pride (2-6) with 12 points.
