The Iredell County Eclipse, a 3v3 Special Olympics basketball team captured Gold medals Sunday to conclude a three-day competition at the Fall State Tournament for Special Olympics of North Carolina.

Head coach Kaylyn Chapman said her squad displayed the "true meaning of team basketball" throughout the tournament. They competed in Division 1.

"They were moving the ball well on offense and did a great job at finding their open teammates," she said. "Overall, communication and hustle on defense is what it took to win the championship. Countless defensive takeaways turned into baskets for us on offense."

This team started two years ago with three athletes. The current group of players has been together a little over a year. Their next tournament will be January 19 at Piedmont High School.
