I-SS reminds community to #BeAGoodFan as fall sports season kicks off
The Fan Code of Conduct was implemented last school year and crafted by the members of the Superintendent’s Advisory board to promote good fan conduct during sporting events.
FROM STAFF REPORTS
With the fall sports season set to officially begin on Monday, Iredell-Statesville Schools wants to remind the community of the I-SS Fan Code of Conduct.
The Code of Conduct has been shared across the district with all middle and high school athletic directors and leadership teams in an effort to build and promote positive sportsmanship both on the field and in the stands.
“The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has very clear guidelines for player conduct," Superintendent Brady Johnson said. "The Iredell-Statesville Schools has taken it one step further by creating a Fan Code of Conduct. We want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome on our campuses.”
The Fan Code of Conduct is posted at each high school and middle school in the district. Individual schools will have the opportunity to share the Fan Code of Conduct in various ways that meet the needs of their school communities.
Some schools have elected to read the Fan Code of Conduct at the beginning of all athletic events. Others have chosen to promote the hashtag #BeAGoodFan in their stands and around their campuses.
Richard Armstrong, assistant superintendent of Operations and Athletics Director for I-SS, feels confident about the season ahead.
“The reason for the Fan Code of Conduct is to ensure that everyone that attends our athletic events has an enjoyable time in an environment that is free of negative behavior. We believe that by setting expectations for our fans, we’ll all have a good experience at the games. We are looking forward to a great fall season!”
