Greyhounds, Wildcats and Blue Devils advance to semifinals in girls bracket

Statesville, Mooresville and Lake Norman prevailed in the girls first round of the Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame Classic on Thursday to join top-seeded North Iredell in the semifinals.
On the opening day, Statesville turned in the most dominant performance in the girls bracket as the Greyhounds jumped out to a 20-3 lead in the game’s opening quarter and never looked back in a 62-20 thrashing of Pine Lake Prep.
Aasia McNeill and Tyasia Sharpe scored 22 points each to power Statesville (8-1) to the first-round win. Danasia Gray added eight points for the Greyhounds, who led 36-9 at intermission, allowing coach Greg Stewart to empty his bench.
Statesville will play Lake Norman in the semifinals.
Lauren Messer scored eight points to lead the Pride (1-6).
In other games:
► Lake Norman 44, South Iredell 35: Lauren Sullivan scored 10 of her game-high 14 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats to victory.
Candis Dancy added seven points for Lake Norman (3-5), which held the Vikings to a total of nine points in the second and third quarters.
Sarah Nelson led South Iredell (4-4) with 10 points and Lydia Mercer added nine.
► Mooresville 44, West Iredell 36: Alecsai Allen scored 15 points to lead the Blue Devils past the Warriors and into the semifinals.
Griselda Ravejas added 10 points for Mooresville, which improved to 4-4 on the season.
Lariyah Clark had a game-high 16 points to lead West Iredell, and Nakyla Heaggans added 10 points. With the loss, the Warriors fell to 4-4 on the season.
