Robert Sloan Earnhardt Sr. went to be with his Lord on April 4, 2019.

Robert was born in Mooresville, N.C., on December 22, 1927, to the late James Alexander Earnhardt Sr. and the late Ila Mae Penniger Earnhardt. He graduated with his GED from Mooresville High School. He started working at the age of 12 on Saturdays and after school fixing bicycles and working on car radiators. After that he worked several different jobs until spending 20 years working at Service Tire and Oil in Mooresville for Johnny Templeton. He began working for Suburban Propane Gas in 1960 and worked there 30 years until his retirement in 1990.

Following his retirement, he spent lots of time in his large shop doing odd jobs for his wife, family and friends. Keeping busy helped him live a long full life. He was affectionately known as “Pop” by family and friends alike.

Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He spent 17 months in Pusan, Korea, as a mechanic. He was also in several cities in Korea and parts of Japan.

He was married to Mary Alice Little Earnhardt, who survives, on September 7, 1952. They were happily married for 66 years. He and Mary Alice met at a square dance in Mooresville, N.C. He was the caller and after Mary Alice visited a few times he blew his whistle one time too many, or exactly at the right time!

In addition to his wife Mr. Earnhardt is survived by two children, Deborah Earnhardt Rosenbalm (Robert), and Robby Earnhardt Jr. (Carol), along with four grandchildren, Andrew Rosenbalm (Betsy), Holly Rosenbalm Mickler (David), Ryan Earnhardt (Storm), and Zachary Earnhardt. Three great-grandchildren, Cora Ellen-Qui Rosenbalm, Charlotte Esther-Lou Rosenbalm and Caroline Elizabeth Rosenbalm, also survive.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Earnhardt, Belle Earnhardt, Cora E. Pierce and Catherine E. Templeton along with one brother, James A. Earnhardt Jr.

Robert was a member of Pressly Memorial ARP Church in Statesville. He was also a former member of First ARP Church in Statesville. He served on the Deacon board and Elder board for both churches.
Funeral service will be conducted 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at Pressly Memorial ARP Church with Pastor Mark Tankersley officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Pressly Memorial ARP Church, 1914 Wilkesboro Hwy, Statesville, NC 28625.
