John Yancy Dewitt Campbell, 76, of Ronda, N.C., died Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born in Iredell County on December 17, 1941, and was the son of the late Offie Campbell and Helen Daye Campbell. He was a graduate of Union Grove High School.

John was employed with the Wilkes County School System for many years.

John was a member of the Raleigh Jaycees and served as Associate Secretary from 1972-1973 of State Jaycee Offices. He was selected to 1972-73 N.C. Jaycees Executive Committee and hired as the first Hearing Officer of the N.C. Inmate Grievance Commission.

On February 8, 2018, John married his long-time companion, Ruth Smyth Campbell, who survives.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Bowles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lois McClamrock (Von) of Olin, Jessica Schroeder (Scott) of Jonesville, Johnny Campbell (Wendy) of Olin, Sherry Strickland Earl (Craig) and Donald Strickland (Amy), both of Sanford, Angie Brown (Roscoe Pardue) of Elkin, Sheila Dalton (Karl Soderstrom) of Mocksville, and Darrell Campbell (Rachel) of Riverside, Calif., along with three sisters, Josephine Royall and Darlene Childress, both of Statesville, and Catherine Hardy of Yadkinville. A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Beulah Church in Hamptonville, N.C., with Justin Bushey officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service at the home of Lois McClamrock, 308 Olin Loop, Olin, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beulah Church, 143 Union Grove Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
