Jerry Steven Gordon, 79, went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 4, 2019, following a period of declining health. He had remained at his home under the care of his beloved wife and Hospice of Iredell County until the Lord called him home. Jerry was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was born in Shelby, N.C., on October 3, 1939, the son of the late John Wesley Gordon and Ruby Walker Gordon. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Chester Gordon.

Jerry and Linda had a love and devotion for each other that touched everyone that came in contact with them. He was a paraplegic for 50 years and lived a vibrant, full and active life, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in electronics. He was a fun-loving person with a passion for life. He had many many hobbies, which led him to establishing a retail store for 40 years called the Hobby Zone. He also was an avid motorcycle and car enthusiast. His daughter has fond memories of jumping on the back of his wheelchair, riding motorcycles, racing cars and just being outdoors having fun with her dad. Grandpa had a sweet tooth and always had snacks around that he loved sharing with his great- grandchildren. Jerry loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his Pastor, and was a member of Harvest Baptist Church of Statesville, N.C.

His memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda R. (Marone) Gordon; one daughter JoAnn Heck and husband Keith of Charleston, S.C.; three granddaughters, the youngest Rachael Heck still at home, Caitlyn Garris and husband Steven of Statesville, N.C., and Courtney Craven and husband Gene of Fort Drum, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, Aubree and Addison.

A memorial celebration of Jerry’s life will be conducted at a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Harvest Baptist Church, 193 Watermelon Road, Statesville, NC 28625.

Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville is serving the Gordon family. Condolences may be posted online at www.reavisfhstateville.com
