Mrs. Helen Eunice Brown Galliher, 83, passed away peacefully at the Gordon Hospice House after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Friday, March 8, 2019. She was born November 7, 1935, to Charles Spurgeon Brown Sr. and Edna Sloan Brown of Olin, N.C.

She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for most of her life and was baptized at an early age by Rev. Grady White in a fish pond in Northern Iredell County. She attended first through sixth grade at the Olin schoolhouse and then moved onto Harmony High School, where she graduated in 1954.

After graduation she was employed by Wachovia in Winston-Salem, then Thomas & Howard in Statesville, and by then the Iredell County Health Department. She retired in 1997 to become The Best stay-at-home grandma ever. Our beloved wife, mom and mamaw will be sorely missed. She loved her Lord, family and church with all her heart. She also loved all things Billy Graham, Dean Smith, Carolina Basketball and Appalachian State University. Her Sinful Potatoes, Sweet Potato & Chicken Casseroles, Strawberry Cakes, and Sweet Tea were second to none. We are blessed and better for knowing her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, W. Boyce Brown, Oleta B. Holland, Hilda Charlene Brown, Audrey Jean B. Waters, Thelma B. Dearman and Lucille B. Gaither, and brothers-in-law, Dr. F. Glen Gaither Sr. and O. A. Dearman.

On July 4, 1960, she married Mr. Vance Davis Galliher, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Van Douglas Galliher (Lisa) of Olin; a daughter, Vicki Denise Galliher of Fairfax, Va., a sister, Ann B. York (Calvin) of Olin; and a brother, Charles S. Brown Jr. (Joy) of Mt. Olive, N.C. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Brown of Atlanta, Ga., and two grandchildren, Hunter Grant Galliher and Haley Rhys Galliher.

Services celebrating Helen’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Childress and Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. A private family interment will be at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
