Mr. Edward Stephens, 66, of 303 Valleybrook Lane, Troutman, departed this life on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte. He was born in Barnstable County on June 2, 1952, and was the son of the late Allen Stephens and Mary Morrison Stephens. Edward was married to Renee Peet Stephens, who survives. In addition to his parents, Allen Stephens and Mary Morrison Stephens, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome Stephens; uncles, Aldolph Stephens, Guy Morrison, Clauzel Morrison, O.C. Morrison and Charles Morrison; one aunt, Eddie Mae Morrison.
Edward was a graduate of Tildon High in New York City, and attended St. Emma Military Academy. He served in the U.S. Navy with honorable discharges and was active in weight lifting, hiking, and biking. Edward attended First Baptist Church and Community Baptist Church. He will truly be missed.
Survivors include his wife,Renee Peet Stephens of the home; sons, Desmond, Anthony, and Terrence of Virginia; brothers, Melvin Stephens, Charlotte, Marvin Olie (Tina) Stephens, Al Jamel )Penny) Stephens, both of Statesville; sisters, Gwendolyn Stephens of Statesville; brother-in-laws, Gary Peet Charles Peet, both of Troutman; sister-in-laws, Sandra Johnson, Celia (Raymond) Gentry, both of Harmony, and Margie Peet and Margaret Keaton, both of Virginia; grandchildren, Desmond Bellamy of Troutman, Essence Whiteside of Catawba, Dessaray Whiteside, Aniaya Peet, Virginia,and Terrence Peet, Jr., all of Virginia; a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Members of the family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Joe B. Clark will officiate. Burial will be Friday, February 8, 2019, at the National Cemetery in Salisbury at 9 a.m. The family will receive friends at the residence of Renee Peet Stephens, 303 Valleybrook Lane, Troutman.
