Rose Lackey Harris

Mrs. Rose Lackey Harris, 91, of 522 Poplar Street, Statesville, departed this life on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the home of her son following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on August 25, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Rev. James Lackey and Esther Caldwell Lackey. She was married to Silas Harris, who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Hessie and Mable Lackey, Inez Lyons and Edith Daye and her brothers, Buford Lackey, Calvin Lackey, Joseph Lackey, Bishop James Lackey and Ira Lackey.

She was a graduate of Morningside High School and attended Winston-Salem State University. She was a certified Nurse's Assistant and was employed by Iredell Memorial Hospital and and as a private duty CNA. She was a faithful member of Gateway to Heaven Church. She loved the Lord and loved to praise Him.
Rose leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Saundra Rivers, Silas (Lavida) Harris, Debra Bellamy and Denise Rise, and William P. (Linda) Lackey, and Alvis (Marshall) Rankins; special friends, Charles Bellamy and Reggie Rise; her grandchildren, Kenny (Felina) Harris Crystal Rose Rangrej, Stacey (Crystal) Harris, Chris and Edwin Rice, Matthew (Tasha) Bellamy and Katherine Bellamy; thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and friends.

We love you and will miss you, mother, grandmother and aunt. You will always be with us in Spirit. -- The Family.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Gateway To Heaven Church in Statesville. Pastor Joann Boller is Pastor, Elder Renard Harris will officiate and Pastor Donald A. Brown will eulogist.

Mrs. Harris will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 1:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of her son, Silas (Lavida) Harris, 727 Greater Living Place, Statesville, at other times.

Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Rose Harris.
