The Carolina Dogwood Festival held the 50th anniversary pageant on Saturday, April 28, in the auditorium at South Iredell High School. The program highlighted the 50-year history with over 25 former Dogwood Queens and Presidents attending as special guests.

Carolina Dogwood Queen

Logan Taylor Potts, a senior at South Iredell High School was crowned as the 2018 Carolina Dogwood Queen. She was also awarded the Queen Talent Award and the Kim Goodman Congeniality Award. Throughout the year she will travel throughout the state promoting the state flower and local community. She is the 18-year-old daughter of Katrina Potts with plans to attend Appalachian State University this fall to study physical therapy. She will also participate on the ASU Elite Dance Team. The first runner-up was Alexis Jade Smith of Denton and second runner-up up was Mia Danielle Brinkley of Clinton.

Teen Dogwood Princess

Shaleigh Noel Short was chosen as the 2018 Teen Dogwood Princess, Teen Talent winner, and Teen Photogenic winner. The daughter of Kristy Smith, she is a junior at South Iredell and would like to study nursing upon high school graduation. The first runner-up award was presented to Jessica Rochelle Hughes of Denton.

Junior Dogwood Queen

The 2018 Junior Dogwood Queen crown, Junior Talent Award, and Junior Photogenic Award were awarded to Karsyn Riley Layne, daughter of Joseph and Julie Layne of Thomasville. As a fourth-grader at Brier Creek Elementary School, she is an honor roll student with future plans to obtain a degree in dance performance. Erika Sally-Theresa Bullard of Harmony was awarded first unner-up and won the Cinamon H. Loyd Community Service Award. The second runner-up position was a tie between Julia Audrey Cates of Statesville and Savannah Rose Weber also of Statesville. The Highest Ticket Sales Award and the Christina Casstevens Spirit of Dogwood Award were also presented to Savannah Rose Weber.
