Two men will spend more than 10 years in prison for their role in the 2018 shooting in the parking lot of the Fiesta Rodeo nightclub in Statesville. Three teens were wounded in the shooting.
On Thursday, May 8, Jadakiss Ja’Wade Morrison, 20, and Jaquez Towayne Gaines, 18, each pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted first-degree murder before Superior Court Judge Hamilton, according to the Statesville Police Department.
Morrison received 12 to 15 years active prison sentence and Gaines received an active prison term of 10 to 13 years, police said.
Three additional suspects received similar sentences after pleading guilty earlier this year:
► Okiero Shuford was sentenced on January 25 to 125 to 162 months in prison for attempted first-degree murder.
► Keeven Trent was sentenced on March 12 to 125 to 162 months in prison for attempted first-degree murder.
► Deontae Savoy was sentenced on March 8 to 58-82 months in prison for conspiracy to commit murder.
The SPD expressed its appreciation for the work that Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Floyd and her team put forth the past year, which has resulted in the successful prosecution of all five suspects in the shooting.
