Troutman Independence Day Parade attracts thousands

Red, white, and blue were the colors of the day at the 14th Annual Troutman Independence Day Parade, sponsored by the Town of Troutman, on Saturday.

While trying to keep cool in the nearly 90-degree heat, spectators enjoyed watching 120 patriotic entries and 1,150 participants march down U.S. Highway 21 in Troutman. Sirens blared on law enforcement vehicles as three planes flew over to kick off this year’s event.

The 208th Army Marching Band, a large assortment of floats, acrobatic troupes, church groups, civic organizations, Scouts, motorcycles, military units, classic and antique cars, fire engines, beauty queens, re-enactment groups, politicians, military vehicles filed by the large crowds, led by veterans of the Vietnam War, who served as this year’s parade marshals.
