SPD seizes heroin, meth and marijuana from hotel room

Three people were arrested at a local hotel over the weekend after Statesville police officers found illegal drugs in a room after being disptached for disturbance.

After arriving at Room 234 of the Red Roof Inn off East Broad Street about 9 p.m. on Sunday, officers saw paraphernalia associated with heroin use in plain view inside the room, according to an SPD news release.

Officers obtained a search warrant and then searched the room. The search yielded crystal methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, various pills, items related to the sale of illegal narcotics, and over $15,100 in currency, police said.

Dustin Clay Gatton, 36, of Statesville was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule III and schedule IV controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gatton received a $50,000 secured bond.

Two women who were also in the room, identified by the SPD as Statesville residents Elizabeth Marie Minton, 34, and Tiffany Mae Jones, 30, were arrested on outstanding warrants, police said. Each woman received a $1,500 secured bond.
