Law enforcement officials in nearby Wilkes County worked with the Statesville Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation to apprehend a former Statesville resident on an outstanding warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon.
Tyrone Bowman, 33, was arrested without incident on Monday, Feb. 12, by Wilkes County sheriff’s deputies, according to an SPD news release. Bowman's current address is in Yadkinville.
This case illustrates the benefit of law enforcement agencies working together, SPD Chief Joe Barone said.
"I can say that this arrest is a result of our successful collaboration with surrounding jurisdictions to identify related cases and individuals," the chief said.
The chief declined to elaborate on the significance of the arrest. Bowman had been evading arrest on the weapons charge, according to Barone.
"We greatly appreciate the involvement of the Sheriff’s office in Wilkes County and congratulate them on making this arrest," he said.
Barone told the Statesville City Council last week that the Violent Crime Collaborative will be operating in Statesville for the foreseeable future. Along with the SPD and Iredell County Sheriff's Office, SBI and ATF, surrounding law enforcement agencies from Wilkes, Davie and Rowan counties are part of this effort to reduce crime in the region.
