Statesville Police Department personnel gathered on January 31 to celebrate the retirement of Captain Tim Hartness.

Hartness has been with SPD for more than 26 years, rising through the ranks from patrol officer to his current assignment, captain over Patrol Division’s Charlie Squad.

During his tenure, Hartness served in almost every division within the agency and held numerous certifications, including serving as one of the agency’s firearms instructors. He was one of the first two traffic officers when the unit was formed in 1998. He also served on the SPD Special Response Team and the Mobile Field Force Team, and was assigned to the team that worked the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
