Sheriff: Woman charged with assaulting physically and mentally handicapped residents of group home

A Statesville woman faces charges that she assaulted three disabled residents of a residential group home following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Brionna Janee Sherrill, 25, in a news release on Friday.
The ICSO began investigating after receiving a complaint on April 4, Campbell said.
The incident report was assigned to Detective Sgt. Katie Harwell of the ICSO Special Victims Unit. Sgt. Harwell worked closely with Iredell County Child Protective Services throughout this investigation, Campbell said.
The staff at the group home were cooperative with Harwell throughout the investigation and numerous interviews were conducted, according to the news release.
Sherrill is accused of had assaulting three victims, who range from 12 to 20 years of age, Campbell said. The victims are all mentally and physically disabled, the sheriff added.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred on March 23 and March 24, 2019, according to the news release.
Harwell obtained arrest warrants chargining Sherrill with seven counts of misdemeanor assault on an Individual with disabilities. Sherrill was arrested on Friday, May 3, and issued a $2,500 bond by Magistrate Tutterrow.
