Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of John David Mecimore Jr., 36, in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
The ICSO began an investigation on Thursday, April 18, after receiving a report in reference to a sexual assault involving a female victim who was almost 5 years old at the time of the assaults.
The case was assigned to Detective Sgt. Katie Harwell of the ICSO Special Victims Unit for further investigation. During the course of the investigation, the child was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center.
The victim identified Mecimore as the suspect in the case, Campbell said. The alleged offenses occurred between June 1 and August 31, 2013, at a home on Grassy Meadow Lane.
Based on evidence and statements obtained during this investigation, Harwell obtained warrants charging Mecimore with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Mecimore was arrested on Friday, May 10, in Caldwell County. He received a $75,000 bond on these charges.
According to the ICSO, Mecimore's criminal history includes the following charges: hit and run/leaving the scene, three counts of driving while license revoked, misdemeanor assault on a female, and misdemeanor larceny.
