Sheriff: Shooting suspect apprehended in Virginia

A supsect in a weekend shooting on Damascus Church Road has been apprehended in Virginia.
Joshua David Dalton, 19, was taken into custody in Floyd County, Va., on Wednesday, according to an Iredell County Sheriff's Office news release.
ICSO detectives obtained a warrant chargin Dalton with felony assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection with a shooting on Sunday, March 10.
During the investigation, detectives gathered information about Dalton having family members in Floyd County, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in the news release. Authorities in Virginia went to a residence that detectives identified as a possible location for the suspect.
Dalton was located at the residence and taken into custody, Campbell said.
On Sunday a 911 call was received in reference to a man being shot shortly after 8 p.m. Deputies arrived on scene at 172 Damascus Church Road within minutes. They were advised by witnesses the suspect had fled the scene heading towards Alexander County.
The suspect was identified as Dalton, according to the news release. According to witnesses, Dalton shot the man after being told he was not welcome and asked to leave, Campbell said,
Dalton left the scene in a black Jeep Cherokee, which was found by deputies about 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
The injuries sustained by the victim were not life-threatening, Campbell said.
