Sheriff: Registered sex offender faces charges for living within 1,000 feet of school
FROM STAFF REPORTS
A registered sex offender faces new charges related to registration and residence requirements following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Michael Connor Lamp Jr., 37, in a news release.
The ICSO began investigating on June 26 after being notified that Lamp had updated his address to 604 Foxcroft Terrace in Statesville, Campbell said.
Deputy Cody James checked the address for compliance and determined the address was within 1,000 feet of Statesville Montessori School, according to the news release.
Deputy James attempted to make contact with Lamp at the registered address but was unable to do so, Campbell said.
The deputy also determined the address Lamp had provided was Building 604, when he was actually living in Building 602 with acquaintances, according to the news release.
Further investigation revealed that Lamp's acquaintances had been evicted, Campbell said.
Based on evidence gathered through the course of the investigation, Lamp was charged with one count of Felony Violation of Sex Offender Residence as well as one count of Felony Failing to Register by providing False Information.
Lamp was arrested on Sunday, June 30, by the Statesville Police Department. Magistrate Nicholson set his bond at $12,000.
