Sheriff: Harmony woman charged with statutory rape
FROM STAFF REPORTS
A Harmony woman was charged with eight sex offenses, including statutory rape of a minor, following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Teresa Jane Gentry, 39, in a news release Tuesday morning.
The ICSO began investigating on January 25 after receiving a report about a possible sexual assault involving a child, Campbell said. The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Katie Harwell of the ICSO Special Victims Unit.
During the course of the investigation, the child was interviewed and identified Gentry, a family friend, as the suspect in this case, according to the news release. The victim disclosed having sexual intercourse with Gentry, Campbell said.
Harwell obtained numerous photos, videos and cellular telephone messages containing sexual content and images that Gentry sent to the child, Campbell said.
Based on interviews and the evidence gathered in this investigation, Harwell obtained several felony arrest warrants for Gentry.
On February 21, Gentry was arrested and charged with Felony Statutory Rape of a Child, five counts of Felony Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor, and two counts of Felony Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
Magistrate Chambers set Gentry's bond at $150,000.
