Sheriff: Felon charged in Brookhaven Road break-in

A convicted felon faces charges in connection with a break-in on Brookhaven Road late last month.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Scotty Eugene Shoemaker, 51, of Shoemaker Farm Road in a news release.
On Monday, July 29, the ICSO received a report about a motor vehicle break-in on Brookhaven Road, according to the news release. Items stolen from the vehicle were valued at more than $500, Campbell said.
The case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division. Detective Sgt. Wesley Gregory began an investigation into the incident and received information that some of the stolen property had been located at a local business, Campbell said.
Detective Gregory followed up on the information and was able to recover a generator valued at $100. After gathering witness statements and other evidence, the detctive identified Shoemaker as a suspect, according to the news release.
The ICSO obtained warrants charging Shoemaker with felony breaking and/or entering a motor vehicle, misdemeanor larceny from the motor vehicle, and felony obtaining property by false pretenses.
Shoemaker was arrested on August 12 and taken before Magistrate Watkins, who issued Shoemaker a $20,000 bond on these charges.
According to the ICSO, Shoemaker's criminal history includes the following charges: DWI Level 5, misdemeanor breaking and entering, driving while license revoked, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, two counts of DWI Level 3, three counts of misdemeanor larceny, felony flee/elude to avoid arrest with a motor vehicle, three counts of DWI Level 1, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony habitual impaired driving, and felony breaking and entering.
