Iredell Health System has named Linda Thompson the new director of Iredell Home Health – a certified, accredited nonprofit agency that provides home healthcare to people who are homebound due to illness, injury or disability.

Thompson will be responsible for the operation of Iredell Home Health’s clinical function, financial oversight, and quality of care.

“I am committed to making Iredell Home Health the premier agency for patients to obtain care and for employees to work,” Thompson said. “I am committed to helping staff reach their potential as clinicians, and my focus is to do what I can to facilitate that achievement.”

Joshua Self, Iredell Health System’s vice president of operations, praised Thompson for her success as the agency’s interim director.

“Her knowledge, experience, and management skills were essential to the recent restructuring of the department,” he said. “I know Iredell Home Health will continue to prosper under her leadership.”

Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNC Charlotte in 1990 and a Master of Science in Nursing from East Carolina University in 2010.

She began her career as a nurse on Iredell Memorial Hospital’s oncology floor and held positions within the hospital’s Emergency Department as a staff nurse, clinical educator, and assistant director. She worked as the director of Blue Ridge Healthcare’s Emergency Department in Morganton before becoming the Emergency Department director at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

Thompson returned to Iredell Health System in 2012 as its director of Nursing Practice and Quality and fulfilled various interim roles before becoming the director of Iredell Memorial’s Five North Nursing Unit.

She transitioned to Iredell Home Health in 2017 as a performance improvement coordinator and then became the agency’s assistant director.

As an emergency department nurse, Thompson worked as a sexual assault nurse examiner and discovered her love for emergency preparedness. She has continued to serve as a leader in Iredell Health System’s emergency preparedness system.

“Iredell Home Health serves as the bridge for the patient to either return or continue to live in their home,” Thompson said. “We are honored to be allowed into our patient’s world and see what motivates them to reach their personal goals. We provide the education for the caregiver and patient to understand their illness and the therapy and treatments to allow them to return to optimum wellness.”

A member of Christ Church – Statesville, Thompson is married with one grown daughter and enjoys quilting and reading about U.S. and European history. She bleeds purple and gold as an East Carolina Pirate and draws motivational strategies from college football coaches.
