ICSO deputies searching for shooting suspect
FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Iredell County Sheriff's Office is looking for man wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday evening on Damascus Church Road.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced Monday morning that deputies have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Joshua David Dalton, 19, of Meyers Drive, Statesville.
Deputies arrived on the scene of the shooting at 172 Damascus Church Road within minutes of being dispatched after 911 telecommunicators received a call reporting a man had been shot, Campbell said in a news release.
Witnesses told deputies that Dalton fled the scene heading toward Alexander County shortly after the shooting, according to the news release.
The scene was secured and information was sent to other deputies and to law enforcement agencies in surrounding counties in an attempt to locate the suspect.
The victim, who suffered what appeared to be a non-life threatening wound, was later interviewed at a medical facility, Campbell said.
According to the victim and witness statements, after Dalton arrived at 172 Damascus Church Road the victim told him he was not welcome there and told him to leave, according to the news release.
Dalton then pulled a gun from inside his vehicle and shot the victim once before fleeing the scene, Campbell said.
The suspect left in a black Jeep Cherokee, which was located around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, according to the news release.
Deputies obtained a warrant charging Dalton with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
The search for Dalton is ongoing. Anyone who sees Dalton or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3100.
