Cynthia Nicolette Babbitt
Harmony business reports embezzlement
FROM STAFF REPORTS
A Hamptonville woman is facing embezzlement charges after an audit raised questions about bank deposits.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said a Harmony convenience store contacted the ICSO to report possible embezzlement, and Detective Sgt. D.R. Getz with the Economic Crimes Unit was assigned the case.
According to the incident report, the district manager for the company noticed that the daily deposit slips did not match the days of the months that the deposits were supposed to be sent to the bank. Upon investigating further, the district manager was also unable to locate the previous week’s deposit slip.
Detective Getz requested video, safe logs, and deposits for the time in question. Detectives were unable to locate a total of five deposits that were never delivered to the business' financial institution, the report indicated.
During the course of the investigation, a suspect was identified as Cynthia Nicolette Babbitt, 35, of Hamptonville, Campbell stated.
Babbitt was arrested on Feb. 25, charged with embezzlement and received a $12,000 secured bond and was processed at the Iredell County Detention Center.
