Giving Back: News & Notes from the United Way of Iredell County

The United Way of Iredell County is excited to share the following news and notes from its community partners:

American Red Cross

► Since July 12 families have been helped recover from a fire or other disaster that made their home uninhabitable by the American Red Cross in Iredell County.

Iredell County Partnership for Young Children

► ICPYC will host a Touch-a-Truck event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 21 at Signal Hill Mall. This is a free event with lots of kids activities. Free car seat checks.

SCAN & ICPCY

► SCAN of Iredell and the ICPYC will present two special screenings of the movie: “Resiliance: The Biology of stress.” Screenings are from 5 to 8 p.m. on November 14 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 15 at the Iredell County Agriculture Center. Free and meals will be provided. Will have an opportunity to determine your personal ACES score.

Statesville Family YMCA

► Senior Day is scheduled for September 16 from 10 a.m. to 2  p.m. at the Statesville YMCA. Open to the public. Bingo, Potluck Lunch, Demonstrations of various senior friendly exercises.

► The YMCA Annual Banquet is scheduled for December 17 at the Statesville Civic Center. Event raises funds and spotlights the education professionals of Iredell County.

Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County

► The annual Rainbow Kidz luncheon will be held on October at the Statesville Civic Center. This event raises funds to support the Rainbow Kidz child grief support program.

Iredell Recovery Walk

► This event is scheduled for Sunday, September 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. at ESC Park in Troutman. Kids and adult activities, information booths. Free meal and music. Pre-registrants might still receive a free T-shirt.

Fifth Street Ministries

► The Battle of the Badges Softball Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 21, at Mazeppa Park in Mooresville. Event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit My Sisters House. Kids activities planned. Free event.
► An Evening of Hope to benefit Fifth Street Ministries is scheduled for October 10 at the Sharpe House in Statesville.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

► A kick-off breakfast for Domestic Violence Awareness Month is schedule for 8 a.m. on October 4 at Little Joe's Chapel on the campus of Children’s Hope Alliance in Barium Springs. Free event.
► October 24 is Wear Purple Day to raise awareness and support the victims of domestic violence.
