Few Statesville residents taking advantage of early voting

Less than 5 percent of registered voters in the City of Statesville had taken advantage of early voting for the Oct. 10 election by early Friday afternoon.
A total of 635 ballots had been cast. There are 16,581 registered voters in th city.
Voters in all wards are eligible to vote in the mayoral race and the race for two at-large council seats. Voters in Wards 2, 3 and 5 are also electing their council representatives in contested races.
Turnout in Ward 3, where only 30 of 2,614 registered voters have cast ballots, has been the lowest.
The best turnout has been in Ward 4, where 153 ballots have been cast. There are 2,626 registered voters in that ward.
Early voting resumes Monday and continues through next Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Iredell County Elections Office. State law allows residents who have not registered to register and vote during the early-voting period.
On Election Day, Tuesday, Oct. 10, ballots must be cast at local precincts.
