Election Watch: Thirteen candidates file paperwork for fall elections

Thirteen individuals filed the necessary paperwork to run for public office on Friday, the first day of qualifying for this fall's municipal and school board elections.

All three open seats on the Statesville City Council attracted multiple candidates, while positions on governing boards in Mooresville, Troutman and Love Valley and the Mooresville Graded School District also attracted candidates.

The filing period ends at noon on Friday, July 19.

Here's a list of candidates who have filed for the October 8 and November 5 elections:

October 8 Elections

TOWN OF MOORESVILLE
► Mayor: William Miles Atkins
► Commissioner-At-Large: Robert Buford Compton
► Commissioner-Ward 1: Paul Edward Dingler

CITY OF STATESVILLE
► Councilman-Ward 1: Tammy Beckham Wyatt; Mark William Kleinhenz
► Councilman-Ward 4: James Hendrick Pressly; Julius Alexander Hoke
► Councilman-Ward 6: Frederick Fleamon Foster; James Thomas Neal

November 5 Elections

TOWN OF LOVE VALLEY
► Commissioner: Victoria Allison Barker

MOORESVILLE GRADED SCHOOL BOARD
► Board Member: Deborah Lynne Ford Marsh; Kerry Sweeney Pennell

TOWN OF TROUTMAN
► Council: Matthew Robert Weber
