FROM STAFF REPORTS
Amy Rhyne, the long-time principal at East Iredell Elementary School, has announced her resignation, effective March 8.
Iredell-Statesville Schools Superintendent Brady Johnson notified parents, staff and students of Rhyne's planned departure in a letter dated Wednesday, January 16.
Rhyne has accepted a position as the director of Academic Support for Stanly County Schools.
"While we celebrate Mrs. Rhyne’s promotion, we are all sad to see her leave East Elementary, a school that she loves dearly and has served with distinction," Johnson wrote.
Rhyne is a native of Iredell County and spent her entire career in I-SS. She was a teacher, instructional facilitator and principal at Third Creek and East Elementary Schools. Under Rhyne's leadership, the school gained recognition for implementation of The Leader-in-Me and Spanish Dual Immersion programs.
She was named the I-SS principal of the year and the North Carolina Southwest Region principal of the year in 2016-2017.
I-SS officials will begin the process of selecting her replacement in the coming weeks. To give all parents and stakeholders a voice, the district has created a brief survey. You can complete the survey HERE
Alvera Lesane, associate superintendent of Human Resources, will facilitate the selection process for I-SS.
