Tim Dearman has called for a run-off election in the Statesville City Council Ward 1 race.
“I have received a lot of encouragement to give voters a chance to clearly pick their next leader. After all, only 20 votes separated first and fourth place in a five-way race,” Dearman said in a news release.
Dearman will face David Jones in the November 5 election. The winner will succeed Councilman Roy West, who decided not to seek re-election.
Jones, a real estate broker, garnered 134 votes in Tuesday's election. Dearman, a retired newspaper executive, finished second with 117 votes.
“I expect to be out-spent again, but believe my resume is clearly the best fit for the job,” said Dearman.”
Dearman’s previously released platform promised respect, integrity and professional representation, fiscal responsibility, a commitment to open meetings, and being accessible to his constituents.
“Statesville has been home my entire life and it is a great place to live, work and raise a family. But Statesville faces many challenges and needs proven leadership at this critical time. My lifetime of service to Statesville, extensive management and leadership experience, local knowledge and connections enable me to make a difference in Statesville’s future,” Dearman said.
"I love Statesville and my only goal is to make it better,” he added.
