The Statesville Regional Airport has announced that due to the recent accident of the Collings Foundation B-17 aircraft, the scheduled visit of the Wings of Freedom Tour to Statesville has been cancelled.
“We totally understand this decision and express our sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the crew and passengers,” said Statesville Regional Airport Manager John Ferguson. “We look forward to having them back again next year.”
The Statesville Airport has hosted the display of vintage aircraft for the past four years. The planes were scheduled to be in Statesville October 21-24.
The B-17 aircraft crashed Wednesday during a visit in Connecticut.
The Collings Foundation has suspended its flight operations and Wings of Freedom tour following the B17 crash at Bradley International Airport that killed seven people and injured eight others.
