Sheriff: Inmate secretly contacted assault victim from jail
From Staff Reports
An Iredell County Jail inmate is accused of violating his pretrial-release conditions by secretly using other inmates’ telephone PIN numbers to contact a woman he is accused of assaulting during a break-in last month, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.
Locke was charged with second-degree burglary, habitual misdemeanor assault, interfering with emergency communications, and assault on a female in December. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
On Jan. 21, Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. K. Harwell discovered Rex Leroy Locke, 35, of Mooresville had been using other inmates’ PIN numbers to call the victim, Campbell said.
Following Harwell’s investigation, Locke was charged with violation of pretrial release conditions. As a result, Locke’s bond was increased from $80,000 to $170,000.
He remains in the county jail, pending trial.
