Death row inmate from Iredell dies in custody

A man who was sentenced to death in Iredell County for the 2008 murder of Bonnie Lou Irvine died Monday, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections.
Death row inmate Bernard Lamp died at Rex Hospital of apparent natural causes, corrections officials said in a news release. Lamp was sentenced to death in 2014.
Irvine, who lived in Cornelius and worked as an escort, met Lamp through an online ad on Craigslist in February 2007. She was reported missing on March 8, 2008. Her remains were later found buried in the backyard of home off Weathers Creek Road near Troutman.
Lamp had abducted another woman in October 2007 and attempted to rape her before she escaped. He received probation as part of a plea agreement in that case.
Following Lamp’s death, there are 150 inmates on North Carolina’s death row, including two from Iredell County:
• Rayford L. Burkes, 58, has been on death row since April 1, 1993. He was convicted of murdering Timothy Morrison on Jan. 23, 1992. Morrison had testified against him in a murder trial.
• Andrew Darrin Ramseur, 27, has been on death row since June 8, 2010. He was convicted of murdering Jennifer Vincek and Jeffrey Peck while robbing the Shell station on East Broad Street on Dec. 16, 2007.
