FROM STAFF REPORTS

Iredell County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Statesville man wanted for violating the terms of his probation after they found him hiding under a pile of clothes inside a Yellow Stone Lane home, according to a news release.

Deputy Brandon Owens and Sgt. Dwayne Christian were looking for Abel Serrano, 30, around 10:05 a.m. Sunday when Owens saw a man matching Serrano’s description enter the rear of the home, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in the news release.

Christian and Lt. Mike Bova responded to a request for back-up and, after verifying with the homeowner that Serrano was inside, deputies entered the house, where Christian found the suspect hiding in a bedroom closet under the clothes, according to the news release.

Serrano was arrested and charged with felony probation violation on an earlier conviction of obtaining property by false pretense, and misdemeanor resist, obstruct and delay. He was given a $10,000 secure bond.
