4th Annual Home for Our Heroes 5K set for November 9

The 4th Annual Home for Our Heroes 5K, which benefits the Statesville Veterans Heroes House, is scheduled for November 9 in Mooresville.
All race proceeds will go to help Iredell’s homeless veterans through the Statesville Veterans Heroes House. This facility, located at 1208 Wilson Lee Boulevad in Statesville, is dedicated to feeding, housing, and retraining homeless veterans to help them regain control of their lives.
This grassroots effort needs funds to help pay for the daily operation of the shelter. Organizers are offering community members several different options to consider to support veterans who have somehow lost their way.
New this year is a chance to honor or memorialize a runner’s loved one or friend who has served this country by having their name and rank on the back of the race shirt. This opportunity is limited to the first 50 names submitted.
Those wishing to be a Home for Our Heroes Grass Roots T-shirt sponsor can get the name of their choice on the back of the race T-shirt for $100 with $6 sign-up fee ($75 donation and $25 Race fee) Limited space is available (limited to 40).
An Honorarium/Memoriam Sponsorship is also available for $40 plus $3 sign-up fee. October 31 is the deadline for both of these opportunities.
The race registration fee is $25 (plus a $2.50 sign-up fee) for the 5K run, which increass to $30 on November 1.
Also, for $20 (plus a $2.50 sign-up fee), folks can sign up to be a “Phantom” runner if they do not live in the area or cannot make the race but still want to support the cause. Phantom runners have the option to get a T-shirt. Phantom runner registration closes October 31.
Registration (online at https://runsignup.com/Race/Events/NC/Mooresville/HomeforOurHeroes5k) must be completed by November 1 for all types of participants to be guaranteed a T-shirt.
The race start and packet pick up at will be at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church at 134 Talbert Pointe Drive in Mooresville from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
The 5K start time will be 9 a.m. rain or shine.
The awards ceremony is at 10 a.m. Awards will be given to top overall male and female runners, as well as for age groups (male and female) 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70-plus
All awards not picked up on race day will be available for pick up by the winners at St. Luke. Recipients can email or call to schedule a pick-up time.
All shirts not picked up on race day will be given away to late registrants unless prior arrangements have been made.
