The Iredell County Recreation Center pool opened for the season on Saturday — just as the unrelenting heatwave arrived over Memorial Day weekend.
“The pool is open to everyone. We’re encouraging the community to come out and enjoy the pool this season,” said General Manager James Huffman.
On Monday, about 15 people were cooling off in the pool at lunchtime during their special Memorial Day hours.
Huffman estimated that around 70 people attended the pool on opening day and had a strong turnout on Sunday with around 95 people in attendance.
The pool features a beach entry or zero grade access, which allows easy entry for young swimmers and adults. It also has play-in fountains inside the pool.
The swimming pool, located at 122 Grannis Lane, Statesville, will open seven days a week starting on June 8 and running through Aug. 7.
The hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.
“The pool will be open seven days a week when Iredell-Statesville Schools is not in session. And when it is in session it will be open on the weekends,” Huffman explained.
The weekend only dates are as follows: June 1-2, Aug. 10-11, Aug. 17-18, Aug. 24-25, Aug. 31-Sept. 2.
Admission is $5 for ages 13 and up and $4 for ages 12 and under. A family pool pass is $250. The recreation center can take cash, check or credit payments at the facility.
Swimming lessons will be available when the pool is not in use. In addition to the classes, the pool can be rented for private parties and other occasions. Call 704-878-3103 for more information.
