Statesville Woman's Club announces 2019 District II Arts Festival winners
GFWC-NC District II members gather with FAST letters for heart health during the District II Arts Festival. The letters remind us to watch for signs of stroke (F – Facial Dropping, A – Arm Weakness, S – Speech Difficulty, and then T – Time to call 911).

The GFWC-NC Statesville Woman's Club recently competed in the District II Arts Festival, which was held in Statesville. Students from Mount Mourne IB (MMIB), North Iredell High School (NIHS), South Iredell High School (SIHS), West Iredell High School (WIHS) and club members from across the district participated in the festival.
► First-Place Winners: Pen and Ink - Sidney Law (MMIB); and Ceramics - Ella Ewoldt (MMIB).
► First-Place Winners: Color Photography - Will Loyd (SIHS); Wood Craft - Ramsey Chaaban (SIHS); Embroidery - Ava Tomlin (SIHS); and Crochet - Ashonti Holland (SIHS).
GFWC-NC Statesville Woman's Club Competition
► First-Place Winners: Watercolor Painting - Susie Byrd; Crafts, Open Category - Lee Ann Sherrill; Clubwoman Photography “The World In Pictures”: Living Things - Lee Ann Sherrill; Scenes - Susie Byrd; and Still Life - Susie Byrd.
The GFWC-NC Statesville Woman's Club also received first place for its newsletter and presented the Nancy Shanks Federation Day Award.
Sallie Southall Cotten District II Scholarship
North Iredell High School senior Hunter Tharpe (right) was named winner of the Sallie Southall Cotten District II Scholarship. Hunter is the son of James and Carolyn Tharpe of Harmony. He will also compete for the Sallie Southall Cotten State Scholarship.
First-place winners will now go on to GFWC-NC State Competition on Saturday, March 9, in Mebane.
