The Friends of the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Library will host former North Carolina Gov. James G. Martin to speak about his book, "Revelation Through Science," on Tuesday, January 15.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch Library, located at 9154 Sherrills Ford Road in Terrell.

Martin, the son of a Presbyterian minister, earned his doctorate in chemistry from Princeton University and taught at Davidson College for 12 years. A Republican, he also served as North Carolina governor from 1985 to 1993.

Martin’s book seeks to find common ground in the terrain carved out by the sometimes-separate camps of science and religion, as informed by his broad background. Seeing that prior approaches had focused on medicine, biology, and physics, he determined that a chemist’s perspective would add light to the subject.

Martin’s goal? To examine the apparent discrepancies and share his impression that science is not the enemy of faith.

Everyone is welcome to attend the free presentation and to learn more about Martin’s viewpoints and efforts at reconciling science and religion. Copies of his books will be available for purchase and for autographs.
