A pastor appreciation program was held in honor of Rev. Robert E. Sherer recently at the 172nd Homecoming of New Amity Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Scotts.
Sherer, who lives in Troutman, is retiring from the pulpit of New Amity ARP Church and Stony Point ARP Church, where he serves as moderator.
During the eleven o’clock service, the congregation celebrated Rev. Robert and his wife Sara in honor of their 62nd wedding anniversary and 57 years of commitment in the gospel ministry. To honor them both for their outstanding achievements, they were presented a portrait made by Lee Ann Sherrill. Also presented was an engraved plaque for his service and commitment to the gospel ministry at New Amity, along with a gratitude scrapbook.
Following the service, a covered dish lunch was held in the fellowship hall in honor of Rev. and Mrs. Sherer.
Rev. Sherer graduated from Erskine College with the A. B. Degree, and earned a B.D. Degree from Erskine Seminary. He has served at Sandy Plains ARP Church, Tryon, N.C.; Unity ARP Church, Lancaster, S.C.; New Perth ARP Church, Troutman, N.C., from 1962-1993; and as a Minister of Visitation at First Statesville ARP Church, Statesville, N.C. From 2015 through 2019, he has served New Amity ARP Church and Stony Point ARP Church as moderator.
