MacDowell Music Club 'Hymns of Faith' Concert features Trivette, Beaty

The MacDowell Music Club will present a "Hymns of Faith" Concert on Sunday, October 14, at 3:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
Performed by pianist Joey Trivette and Melody Beaty, soprano, this sacred concert will benefit the scholarships awarded by the music club each year. A love offering will be received, and a meet and greet reception will be held following the concert.
Trivette, a graduate of North Iredell High School, received his Ph.D. in Music Education from Florida State University, where he was honored as featured soloist in the choral department’s Plus One Concert. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Performance and a master’s degree in piano Performance. He holds the Albert Endowed Chair of Music at Southwest Virginia Community College, where he instructs a full complement of classes for music majors and also serves as Artistic Director and Pianist for the highly acclaimed Jazz: America’s Music program. Trivette’s accomplishments range from winning Appalachian State University’s Concerto-Aria Competition three times as he performed Concerti by Grieg, Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saenz with the ASU orchestra, to performing a premier recital of the Tchaikovsky Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, accompanied by Dr. Joey Bell on organ.
He relishes collaborating with with other superb musicians, such as Andre Thomas, Rodney Eichenberger, Mary Goetze, Rollo Dilworth, Judy Bowers, Sandy Holland, and Robert Shaw. Previous recitals include “An Evening of French Masterworks for Flute and Piano” with Dr. Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham, and “A Celebration of Women’s History Month featuring Professional Women Musicians Performing Works Written by Female Composers.”
Trivette is in demand throughout the region and is an active church musician.
Beaty will once again enthrall Statesville with a voice hitting “notes higher than anyone should go without a net … jewel-like with a pianissimo that kisses a note in the stratosphere … superb control, effortlessly reaching extremes in her range, ” as described by the Augusta Chronicle. Earning her bachelor and master of music degrees from Winthrop University, Beaty was winner of the North Carolina District Metropolitan Opera auditions and has served on the roster of North Carolina Touring Artists and now serves as Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Statesville and maintains a private music studio. Her talent, generous encouragement of artists of all ages, and promotion of music in her church and community are wide ranging and much appreciated.
Melody’s extensive roles include Rosina in The Barber of Seville for Asheville Lyric Opera Company and the title roles for Augusta Opera’s La fille du regiment and Romeo and Juliette. Opera Carolina audiences have heard her as Gilda (Rigolletto), Marie (La fille du regiment), Yum Yum (The Mikado), and Pamina ( Die Zauberfloute). For Triangle Opera Theater she created the role of Jenny in the world premiere of Robert Ward’s Roman Fever and for New York’s DiCapo Opera Theater, she performed Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Antonia (Les contes D’Hoffman), and Mimi (La Boheme). With National Opera Company, Beaty made her professional operatic debut as Marie (La fille du regiment), and also performed the roles of Adele (Die Fledermaus), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), and the title role in La Dame Blanche. Her concert repertoire includes Rossini Stabat Mater, Schubert’s Mass in G, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Handel’s Messiah.
