Iredell Senior Center is a program of the Iredell Council on Aging, a non-profit agency serving people 60 years of age and better, and is certified as a “Senior Center of Excellence” by the NC Div. of Aging and Adult Services. Computer and Hand Held Devices Classes
Technology Talk – Monday, July 8, 15 & 29 at 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Individual 30 minute sessions to learn more about technology that may have you puzzled. Topics include: beginning computers, transferring/editing photos and IPhone or Mac devices. Just let us know what you are looking for. Computers are available at the center or feel free to bring any handheld device or laptop. Please register the day prior to the class. ($10 per session)

Intermediate Watercolor Painting – Off until August. Dates to be announced. Classes are each Wednesday at 1:00 PM and in six week sessions. Limit is 15 per class. Fee: $36.00 for six weeks. Please register. In room 206.
1st Friday Bingo - Friday, July 5 at 1:30 PM. Bring your own refreshments. Prizes are provided by Saber Healthcare (Autumn Care). No fee. In the Ballroom.
Grief Share Grief Support Group - Tuesday, July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 10:00 AM - 12 Noon. Often, friends and family want to help you, but don’t know how. The group is led by caring people who experienced grief and have successfully rebuilt their lives. They understand how you feel because they have been in the same place. They will walk with you on the long path through grief toward healing and hope for the future. No fee. In room 211.
Caregivers Support Group. July 8 and 22. This group meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at 2:30 - 4:30 PM. Are you or a loved one providing care to someone who has a chronic illness? Then a support group is exactly what you need. This Caregiver Support Group will be both educational and a time to share experiences with others who understand the journey you are on. Many caregivers feel alone, but this group will help you learn YOU ARE NOT ALONE! No fee. In room 209
Book Discussion Group – Tuesday, July 9 at 10:00 AM. - Come join Michele Coleman of the Iredell County Library in a group discussion of the book of the month. Several books will be available or you may bring your own. No fee. Room 211.
Visually Impaired Support Group – July 11. This group meets the second Thursday at 10:00 AM. No fee. For more information call Tim Eller, Social Worker at 704-924-4111. In room 206.
What is Home Care? - Friday, July 12 at 11:00 AM. Sharon Willis from Right at Home will give a presentation on what home care is. She will explain the services available and needs of clients that precipitate in-home care, as well as a discussion about particular services that Right at Home provides. It is an informative discussion for those considering care, for those who might already have care, or for those who have needs but don’t know what is available as support. Give and Take Bingo - Friday, July 12 at 1:30 PM. Bring a $1 gift, and your own refreshments. No fee. In the ballroom.
Diabetes Seminar – Tuesday, July 16 at 10:00 AM. There are many choices you can make to decrease your risk of getting diabetes. If you already have diabetes, healthy lifestyle choices can relieve symptoms. Small lifestyle changes can make a big impact on your health. Join us for a diabetes seminar that will help you take control today and plan for healthy life choices in the future. Register by Monday, July 15. Rubber Stamped Greeting Cards – Tuesday, July 16 at 10:00 AM. Learn many different techniques to create three - four unique greeting cards & envelopes. Fee: $5 for supplies. Class is limited to 12. In room 206.
Thyroid Event – Wednesday, July 17 at 1:00 PM. This will be a 30-45 minute presentation on the thyroid with a Question & Answer period to follow. Scrapbooking - Thursday, July 18 at 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. It is time to get those family & friends photos organized! You may bring ten photos with a common theme (e. g., anniversary, Christmas, graduation, siblings), along with scissors, double-sided tape, white glue and learn scrapbooking techniques, important tips, & how to create themed scrapbooks. Examples will be on display during class. You will take home one to two completed pages. Supply fee: $2. Please register. In room 206.
Dance and Karaoke – Off until September. They will meet the third Thursday of each month. Bring a covered dish to share, and a serving utensil. Dancing and Karaoke are from 6:00-8:00 PM. Admission is $2.00. Partially sponsored by The Gardens of Statesville and Cardinal Village. In the Ballroom.

Coffee With Mayor Costi Kutteh – Off for June, July, and August. This group meets the third Monday of each month at 9:30 AM. Please join us for this wonderful opportunity to have a casual conversation with the Mayor of Statesville in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Coffee will be available.

A Rainbow of Mental Health: An Introduction – Wednesday, July 24 at 1:00- 2:00 PM. This is an introductory course designed to support an understanding of the most commonly diagnosed mental health related conditions in the aged population. This evidence-informed curriculum takes a person – centered approach to understanding classification and care delivery. No Fee. Register by Monday, July 22. In the Ballroom.

Senior Serenaders – They are off until September. This is a choral group sponsored by Iredell Senior Center. They sing songs and hymns for nursing facilities and senior groups at churches in the area. They have approximately 19 members and new voices are always welcome. If you would like to join, they meet occasionally on Wednesday at 2:30 PM to sing or practice. They are accompanied by a pianist and guitarist. For more information call: JoAnn Brown at 704-528-8305. Acrylic Art Workshop - Wednesdays at 9:00 AM. You may join the Art Workshop anytime. This group works primarily with acrylics, but invites anyone interested to bring a project and work together. Critiques and group projects are available. No fee or registration. In room 206.
Shuffleboard- Wednesdays at 9:00 AM. Shuffleboard is a game in which players use cues to push weighted flapjacks (pucks), sending them gliding down a narrow court, with the purpose of having them come to rest within a marked scoring area. Come check it out. No fee. In the Ballroom.
Corn Hole - Wednesdays at 10:00 AM. Corn Hole is a game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn at a raised platform (board) with a hole in the far end. Come join the fun. No fee. In the Ballroom.
Charitable Crafts/Learn to Crochet – Off until September. Fridays at 1:00 PM. Join this group to make items for charitable groups and our Craft Store. More participants are needed to sew, knit & crochet. Beginning crochet lessons are available. No fee. In room 209.
Tai Chi - Mondays at 9:00 AM. Tai Chi improves strength, flexibility, blood pressure and balance when practiced regularly. It is endorsed by the American Arthritis Foundation because it can reduce joint pain. Fee: $6 per session. In the Ballroom.
Chair Exercise - Mondays and Thursdays at 10:30 AM. This is a workout to music that improves/maintains muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion. No fee. In the Ballroom.
Yoga - Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 PM. Yoga is known to strengthen and tone the body while promoting flexibility and tissue oxygenation. Wear comfortable loose clothing and bring a mat. No Fee. In room 209.
Beginning and Intermediate Line Dance - Thursdays from 1:00 – 1:30 PM for beginners who may stay and try other line dances that will become more advanced for the intermediate level from 1:30 – 3:00 PM. Line dance is a fun way to exercise the body and mind! No fee. In the Ballroom.
Billiards - Come join this friendly group. Tuesday mornings are dedicated to the women, and Thursday mornings are dedicated to the men…otherwise, the tables are open for anyone to play! The Center has three full-sized pool tables. No fee. In the Billiards room.
Senior Fit Walk at YMCA - Senior Center members may use the YMCA in-door walking track at Statesville Family YMCA. Come see us to enroll and “get walking” rain or shine! Fee: $15.00 per month in the month you use the Y. Pay at the Y.

AARP Tax Aide - Offered each year from February 1 – April 15. No fee. Call 704-873-8568 for an appointment.
Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) - Medicare and Insurance Counseling -
At Iredell Senior Center, volunteer counselors trained by the NC Dept. of Insurance provide free individual assistance to people who are Medicare eligible. Counselors advise about Medicare, Medicare Part D, Low Income Subsidy Assistance, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, long - term care insurance supplements, and assist with billing problems, and Medicare fraud and abuse. Senior Law Project/Legal Aid of NC – By appointment only. A lawyer will be here the Second Tuesday of the second month of each quarter. Lawyers assist with telephone consults (advice) and may provide services for other legal concerns. Visit their website at: www.legalaidnc.org. Phone Legal Aid of NC for legal advice or to see the attorney at 1-877-579-7562, Mon. through Fri. from 9 to 11 AM and 1 to 3 PM. Long-Term Care Counseling - Counseling services including long-term care (assisted living and nursing home) placement, residents’ rights, and/or questions or problems in long-term care pre- and post-placement are available monthly. Scrabble - Mondays at 1:00 PM. A word game that stimulates the brain. No fee. In room 209.
Contract Bridge - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons at 1:00 PM. Please contact the Center about joining a group. No fee. Monday in the Ballroom, Wednesday in room 211 & Friday in room 205.
Senior Canasta - The second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 AM. No fee. They are recruiting more players. Instructions available. In room 205.
New!!! Cribbage – Come join in on the fun each Tuesday at 11 AM –1:00 PM. Cribbage is a card game traditionally for two players, but commonly played with three, four or more, that involves playing and grouping cards in combinations which gain points. No fee. In room 205.
Canasta - Tuesdays at 1:00 PM. They are willing to teach for the first time, or help you refresh your skills. Join anytime. No fee. In the Ballroom.

Mah Jongg - Fridays, at 1:00 PM. Play or learn to play Mah Jongg, a Chinese tile game similar to
Rummy. Mah Jongg is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation and involves a degree of chance. No fee
