Iredell Senior Center is a program of the Iredell Council on Aging, a non-profit agency serving people 60 years of age and better, and is certified as a “Senior Center of Excellence” by the N.C. Division of Aging and Adult Services. For additional information or to register for an activity or service, call the Senior Center at 704-873-8568. Iredell Senior Center is located at 344 E. Special Classes, Services and Events
Intro to Computers ~ Learn the basics of computers - using Windows 10.Call to register for future classes. $30 for 6 lessons. In Computer Lab.
Internet, Email, Word, & Facebook ~ Classes will be scheduled, depending on the demand.Call to register for future classes.$30 for 6 lessons. In Computer Lab.
Tech Buddies when available – On Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30 PM. Call to put your name on the waiting list. Learn how to use your smart phone, IPad, tablet, and other hand held devices – call to register. No fee.
Photo Editing Classes when available at 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Learn how to crop, make special effects, & collages, import from your camera, and more.$15 for 3 lessons. Call to put your name on the waiting list. In Computer Lab.
Statesville Ballroom Dance Club ~ February 10 at 7:00 PM.For more information, call the Senior Center. Join this group for ballroom dancing, snacks, and socializing!Please bring a finger food snack. Fee: $5 per person. In the Ballroom
Valentine Dance and Karaoke ~ Friday, February 17 at 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM.Bring a covered dish to share, and a serving utensil.Dancing and Karaoke are from 6-8 PM. A $2.00 donation would be greatly appreciated. In the Ballroom.
Advocacy Event w/Denise Bair, Entertainment by Conrad Sells ~ Wednesday, February 22, at 2 PM.An event to meet your Senior Tar Heel Delegate, and send a valentine to your state legislators, letting them know what the senior center means to you.Refreshments will be served.Register.No fee.In Ballroom.
Senior Singles ~ Thursday, February 23, at 12:30 PM at Logan’s. This will be the only meeting for the month due to the facilitator having surgery. For more details you may pick up a flier at Iredell Senior Center. For singles only. It is a fun, social group. You must be 60 or better. In room 206 and off campus.
Caregivers Support Group ~ Monday, February 27, at 2:30-4:30 PM. Meets the fourth Monday of each month. Are you or a loved one providing care to someone who has a chronic illness?Then a support group is exactly what you need.This Caregiver Support Group will be both educational and a time to share experiences with others who understand the journey you are on. Many caregivers feel alone, but this group will help you learn YOU ARE NOT ALONE! No fee.In room 209.
Watercolor Painting ~ Wednesdays at 1 PM.The last four sessions will be February 1, 8, 15, & 22.The next session starts March 1. Instructor:Judy Carpenter.Judy has taken art lessons from numerous artists, attends workshops, and brings a wealth of information to the classroom. The classes are in six week sessions. Salt and Pepper Book Club ~ Monday, February 13, at 1 PM. A fun and social gathering open to all ideas! Facilitated by Jeannie Petrosini. No fee. In room 206.
Tell Your Story Scrapbooking ~ Thursday, February 16, 10 AM-12 noon. It is time to get those family & friends photos organized!You may bring ten photos with a common theme (e. g., anniversary, Christmas, graduation, siblings), along with scissors, double-sided tape, white glue and learn scrapbooking techniques, important tips, & how to create themed scrapbooks.Examples will be on display during class.You will take home one to two completed pages.Instructor:Kathy Strantz. Piedmont Parkinson’s Support Group (PPSG) ~ Thursday, February 16, at 10 AM. The PPSG is for people with Parkinson’s Disease, their caregivers, & family. The speaker of the month will be Mike Billings, Statesville Fire Marshal. He will speak about fire safety for persons with disabilities. No fee. In room 209.
Bingo Birthday Bash ~ Friday, February 17, at 1:30 PM. Everyone is invited to play Bingo, win prizes, and have refreshments. Birthday ladies and gents are recognized. Rubber Stamped Greeting Cards ~ February 21. They regularly meet on the Third Tuesday at 10 AM. Learn many different techniques to create 3-4 unique greeting cards & envelopes. Fee:$5 for supplies. Instructor:Nancy McKay.Helper:Nancy Harris. Class is limited to 12. In room 206.
Needlecrafters ~ Mondays at 10 AM. Do you crochet, knit, sew or make other crafts?Need help reading a pattern? Enjoy working on projects? Bring a personal project or use Senior Center materials to make items for sale in our Craft Store. This group enjoys working together and socializing! No fee. In room 206.
Bluegrass, Country, and Gospel Jam Session ~ Tuesdays at 10 AM. Join them in making bluegrass, country, and gospel music, jam session style. More musicians and vocalists are needed. If you would just like to listen, you are always welcome! No fee or registration. In the Ballroom.
Senior Serenaders ~ They practice some Wednesdays at 2:30 PM. Off campus dates and time vary. This is a choral group sponsored by Iredell Senior Center. They sing songs and hymns for nursing facilities and senior groups at churches in the area. They have approximately 19 members and new voices are always welcome.If you would like to join, they usually meet on Tuesday - occasionally on Wednesday - to sing or practice. Art Workshop ~ Wednesdays at 9 AM. You may join the Art Workshop anytime.This group works primarily with acrylics, but invites anyone interested to bring a project and work together. Critiques and group projects are available. Instructor: Annette Ratledge. No fee or registration. In room 206.
Mats for the Homeless ~ Regularly meet Fridays at 11 AM. Join this social and working group to make mats for local people who are homeless.Helpers are needed who will flatten the plastic grocery bags, cut them into strips, and crochet the strips into a mat with a large crochet hook.No fee or registration. Bag donations are not needed at this time. We need more folks to help with this project. In room 206.
Charitable Crafts Projects ~ Fridays at 1 PM. Join this group to make items for charitable groups and our Craft Store. No fee. More participants are needed to sew, knit & crochet. Room 209.
Tai Chi ~ Mondays at 9 AM. Tai Chi improves strength, flexibility, blood pressure and balance when practiced regularly.It is endorsed by the American Arthritis Foundation because it can reduce joint pain.Instructor: Mike Gentile. Fee: $6 per session. In the Ballroom.
Chair Exercise ~ Mondays and Thursdays at 10:30 AM is their regular schedule. This is a workout to music that improves/maintains muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion.Instructors:Dot Williams & Jackie Click. No fee. In the Ballroom.
Yoga ~ Tuesday and Thursday at 2:30 PM.Yoga is known to strengthen and tone the body while promoting flexibility and tissue oxygenation.Wear comfortable loose clothing and bring a mat.Facilitated by Faye Goforth. No Fee. In room 209.
Beginning and Intermediate Line Dance ~ Thursdays from 1 – 1:30 PM for beginners who may stay and try other line dances that will become more advanced for the intermediate level from 1:30 – 3 PM. Line dance is a fun way to exercise the body and mind!Instructor: Kathy Strantz. No fee.In the Ballroom.
Billiards ~ Come join this friendly group. On Tuesday mornings, women play exclusively and men have the tables to themselves on Thursday mornings…otherwise, the tables are open for anyone to play! The Center has two full-sized pool tables and one small table. No fee. In the Billiards room.
Senior Fit Walk at YMCA ~ Senior Center members may use the YMCA in-door walking track at Statesville Family YMCA or the gymnasium at Barium Springs Family YMCA.Come see us to enroll and “get walking” rain or shine! Fee: $15.00 per month. Pay at the Y.
AARP Tax Aide ~ Tax preparation will begin early February. Call the Senior Center at 704-873-8567 for an appointment.
Choose a Lab Test ~ No longer available at the Senior Center.You may go to the Iredell County Health Department.No appointment necessary.
Monthly Blood Pressure Check ~ February 8 ~ 11 AM to 12 noon on Second Wednesdays - Drop in for a free blood pressure check.Provided by Iredell Home Health.In the Ballroom.
Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) - Medicare and Insurance Counseling
At Iredell Senior Center, volunteer counselors trained by the NC Dept. of Insurance provide free individual assistance to people, who are Medicare eligible.Counselors advise about Medicare, Medicare Part D, Low Income Subsidy Assistance, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, long term care insurance supplements, and assist with billing problems, and Medicare fraud and abuse. Legal Services ~ February 27 at 1 PM. Free simple legal services provided by local attorney, Ms. Beth Setzer. Call for an appointment. In room 205.
Senior Law Project/Legal Aid of NC ~ At Iredell Senior Center, legal services are provided two times a year by Attorney Jeannie Maresca. The next date will be scheduled later. Lawyers assist with telephone consults (advice) and may provide services for other legal concerns. Visit their website at:www.legalaidnc.org. Phone Legal Aid of NC for legal advice or to see the attorney at 1-877-579-7562, Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 AM and 1 to 3 PM. Long Term Care Counseling ~ Counseling services for long term care (assisted living and nursing home) placement, residents’ rights, and/or questions or problems in long term care pre- and post-placement are available monthly, free of charge.Service is provided by a Long Term Care Ombudsman with the Centralina Area Agency on Aging. Canasta ~ Tuesdays at 1 PM. They are willing to teach for the first time, or help you refresh your skills.Join anytime. No fee. In the Ballroom.

Hand and Foot Card Game ~ Wednesdays at 1 PM. Hand and Foot is a variation of Canasta. Join anytime. No fee. In room 209.

Mah Jongg ~ Fridays at 1 PM. Play or learn to play Mah Jongg, a Chinese tile game similar to Rummy. Mah Jongg is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation and involves a degree of chance. No fee or registration. In room 206.
