Get Fit Iredell is offering fitness and nutrition fun for the whole family in October with the 5th Annual GFI Kickball Tournament and the 1st Annual GFI Kids Cookoff event.
Registration is now open for the free GFI Kickball Tournament on Sunday, October 13, at Stumpy Creek Park (160 Stumpy Creek Road, Mooresville) from 1 to 5 p.m. The event is limited to 12 teams.
Team organizers can register their team at https://bit.ly/2m8HScd, even if they do not know the specific names of the players, as long as they know they will have enough to make a team. Sign up with a team name and contact info after creating a free user account in the Iredell County Recreation Department system.
Team managers will receive a blank roster, participant waiver and information forms, and the rules via email after they register.
Teams must have at least three female members on the field to avoid penalties. Teams should have 10 to 15 members.
The five-inning games in the double elimination tournament will feature one pitch for each player.
The first Get Fit Iredell Kids Cookoff will be on Sunday, October 27, from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony, at the Iredell-Statesville Schools’ Career and Technical School at 350 Old Murdock Road in Troutman.
The event is sponsored by Food Lion, which is providing most of the contest ingredients.
Eight teams, made up of one adult and two kids (age 7 to 15 years), will compete in three rounds, making a healthy appetizer, entree, and dessert using a unique mystery basket of ingredients during each segment.
The first eight teams who register on Eventbrite will be entered, with those who entered after being alternates (in order of registration) if a team drops out.
Contestants will have to sign a liability waiver, and children must have a parent/guardian signature on a permission form to participate. These forms will be emailed to teams who will participate.
Teams will be scored on creativity, taste, effective use of all basket items, and appearance. Medals will be given to first-, second- and third-place in each category as well as an overall competition winner.
The three judges will be restaurant chefs or cooks from Statesville, Troutman and Mooresville.
Because of the limited kitchen space, team fans can view the event in the adjacent CATS meeting room on the big screen and be in the audience during the awards ceremony.
The adult team member should complete the team's registration. All requested information for all three contestants must be included to be considered for a team spot in the competition.
