Friday After Five Preview: The Cookie Band closes out 2016 summer concert season
BY MEREDITH COLLINS
The Piedmont HealthCare Friday After Five Concert Series will conclude Friday evening when The Cookie Band takes the big stage in downtown Statesville.
The six-member band plays a variety of music, including jazz, R&B, pop, beach music and country, says band leader, Roy Daye Jr.
The band has evolved since 1997, and Daye has a pool of highly sought-after musicians who rotate in and out of the band.
Members for the Friday After Five performance will be Antonio “Lelo” Bowers on guitar, Phillip Whack on sax, Archie “Snoopy” Pearson on bass, Matt Kelly on keys, Timothy Smalls on drums and Daye on lead vocals and guitar.
Many of the band members have performed for national recording artists. Some artists are on tour and perform with The Cookie Band when they are not on the road, Daye said.
The band mainly plays for private parties and weddings. Daye plays as a solo acoustic artist locally also.
As a Statesville native and Statesville High School class of 1986 graduate, Daye says he is looking forward to seeing some classmates at the concert as they celebrate their 30-year reunion.
